The city of Munich and the police are strengthening security controls around the Theresienwiese, the site of the annual Oktoberfest, to ensure the safety of visitors. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung and Tz, the security measures for Oktoberfest include the deployment of hundreds of police officers, the installation of 56 cameras, and a special unit to combat drone threats.
The Kreisverwaltungsreferat (KVR), a municipal administrative body, is also involved in Oktoberfest security. The KVR has deployed approximately 240 employees to the festival grounds and surrounding areas, including personnel from the event office, licensing control, fire prevention and hazard protection, food inspection, and the fire brigade. The city is also bolstering the Integrated Command Center and local fire stations with additional personnel. During the second and third weekends of the festival, fire department colleagues from Bolzano will assist as interpreters for Italian callers on emergency hotline 112.
The Rettungszweckverband München, the city's rescue organization, has prepared additional medical resources for the event, including up to three emergency medical response vehicles, 19 rescue vehicles, and two ambulance transport vehicles. These measures are in response to the overcrowding experienced in previous years, which prompted the organizers to revise the security plan.
The enhanced security measures are intended to prevent potential threats and ensure a safe environment for visitors during the Oktoberfest.
